IN THE BEGINNING OF TIME

Every kid’s dream is to be a teenage. The cool shoes, gadget, pocket money, and the freedom to go anywhere you feel like. I know it because I dreamed about it many time as a kid I would see my neighbor’s 18 year old kid going on his bike with his Bluetooth headsets grooving on a song or a friend’s 15 year old sister sitting in a coffee shop eating a piece of my favorite chocolate cake without even consulting or depending on her mother. It felt like a dream, a dream that was not too far but my patience was varying.

Then was the day I reached my teenage and how did I know, well it was easy. For the first time in my life my dad trusted me with a 100 rupees note. He called me close one evening and said “son now that you are big you have to take care of your own and not run behind you mother for every small thing, here is a 100 rs note this is your pocket money for the week use it wisely”.

I was so happy that day that I ignored the fact that I was tricked by my father. I had my first pocket money and I was so happy I had forgotten the fact that my daily expense is around hundred and how am I supposed to last a week.

That day I went down to my friends all pimped up “like a boss”!. Pulled out my power ranger wallet and showed every one my first pocket money. Soon on of my friend started calculating 100 for a week a month has 4-5 week that means 500 a month ka-ching! A year has 12 month that means 6000 a year ka-ching! ohh my god you going to be rich. My eyes popped out with money.  Now I can buy that gear cycle I always wanted and still have some money for me, but first let’s celebrate, to the coffee shop.

I was flying that day no one can pull me down; I was soaring like an eagle, no! Much awesome then an eagle, a jet, I was soaring the sky like a jet, a jet with 100 rupees fuel.”

Mayday mayday! I think we are out of fuel eject!” yes I had to eject. I reached the coffee shop picked up the menu chocolate mousse 150 rupees, death by chocolate 240 rupees, a slice of dark forest chocolate cake 75 rupees. What the censored! My uncle Suresh bought a cake for me on my birthday and the whole cake cost 140 rupees.

I started doing the math every day I get up on my way to the my school I have a fruit cake worth 15 rupees, a 10 rupees chocolate chip cookies for later, a fruity drink worth 25, every day I misplace a pen 10 rupees for that, 2 vada-pav worth 10 rupees, the gaming parlor 10 rupees and the ice cream after that 5 rupees.

Hmmmmm………..

Every day I spend around 85 rupees how am I supposed to last this 100 for a whole week.  There must be some mistake dad must have done some mistake.

I ran to my dad with his hundred rupees privilege in my hand. It all went in my movie like a western movie.

Me: dad!

Dad: son!

Me: how could you

Dad: someone had to do it.

Me: but its not at all fair.

Dad: its time you learn the value of money

The then he started sounding like a regular old Indian dad a typical dad. “son when I was your age I didn't have privileges like you, when I was a kid i my pocket money was just 10 rupees. we didn't have your fancy coffee shop or mobiles or other gadget and look at me I did just fine so its time you start growing up and being a man”. What the censored he was young a hundred years back when they just started making money.
I had to confront him “but dad” he looked an angry look “no means no, either you take the money or ill take it and then you will have no money to take care of your stupid expenses”

Like that my dreams shattered and I was left alone with the 100 rupees note. Grown-ups say our life is easy well I would say give those 100 and tell them to survive……
